SAFETY ADVISORY: MAINTENANCE WORK UNDERWAY AT ERIE CANAL LOCK 17 IN LITTLE FALLS
Public Access to the Lock is Restricted
The New York State Canal Corporation is rehabilitating Erie Canal Lock E-17 in Little Falls throughout this winter. This work, often referred to as a “pump out,” rehabilitates and repairs the functioning components of the lock during the non-navigation season and requires the use of cranes and other large pieces of equipment.
The nearby Erie Canalway Trail is accessible and open for use by pedestrians and cyclists throughout the project; however, Seeley Street will be closed just east of the Eagle Creek hydroelectric facility. Access to Moss Island will remain available. On the south side of Lock E-17, the lower lock area accessible from State Route 169 will be closed, including the parking lot.
Anglers seeking to fish and trail users are encouraged to park along the State Route 169 access road near the trailhead. Fishing can occur downstream of the lock.
For reference, please View the map of trail closure.
