SAFETY ADVISORY: INSPECTION OF LOCK 17 STAIRWAY IN LITTLE FALLS IS UNDERWAY
 

Public Access to the Lock is Restricted
 

The New York State Canal Corporation has closed the Erie Canal Lock E-17 access staircase in Little Fall temporary for a structural evaluation. During this time foot access between the Erie Canalway Trail and Steeley Street will not be available.

 

Rochester: Pre-construction site preparation work to be performed between Kendrick Road and Mt Hope Avenue on the Erie Canalway Trail

The New York State Canal Corporation will be performing Clearing and Grubbing along fencing, railing, and signage, as well as bollard work along the Erie Canalway Trail in preparation for a Trail restoration project, beginning October 27th. This work is expected to last several weeks and will require a complete closure of the Trail with a marked detour. Please see map below for details.

Pendleton: Maintenance work to be performed at the Pendleton Guard Gate along the Erie Canal in Niagara County

The New York State Canal Corporation will be performing drilling activities along the Erie Canal near the Pendleton Guard Gate starting as early as October 29th. The results of these activities will help inform how the Canal Corporation rehabilitates the structure in the future. 
Residents will notice construction vehicles, equipment, and workers on the Trail at the following location-https://maps.app.goo.gl/ARY67JDSshYQKJhP9

The Trail will be largely unimpacted by this work and remain open, though work vehicles may be present on the Trail.

Pittsford: Maintenance work to be performed at the Brockville Waste Weir along the Erie Canal in Orleans County

he New York State Canal Corporation will be performing drilling activities along the Erie Canal near the Brockville Waste Weir starting Oct. 28th . The results of these activities will help inform how the Canal Corporation rehabilitates the structure in the future.

A small section of the Erie Canalway Trail will be impacted by this work, and temporarily, short duration closures may be necessary while equipment is mobilized. The Trail will remain open for the most part during this project. The Trail will be completely traversable after 5pm each day.

Culvert Work: Beginning October 27

Erie Canal/Empire State Trail 
Town of Whitestown, Rome

The NYS Canal Corporation will begin the repair and replacement of the Thomas Road culvert. The Trail in this area will need to be close while this work takes place. A marked detour will direct Trail traffic onto Rome-Oriksany Rd between Reber Road and Thomas Road. See attached map for details.

Champlain Canalway/Empire State Trail
Fort Edward, NY

Kiewit Corporation will be working adjacent to the trail and using the segment of trail highlighted for vehicular access to their work areas. Flaggers will be used to coordinate trailway user access with ongoing construction access.

Work activities will continue:

Work Along Towpath Road (north of Rte. 196)
4/6/24 – 10/31/25 (intermittent)
