Canal Season Opens in Rochester With Dedication of New Tug Named After Women's Rights Pioneer Elizabeth Cady Stanton

The 195th navigation season on the Erie Canal opens Friday in Rochester, with the dedication of a new tugboat named after Elizabeth Cady Stanton, a famed leader of the women's suffrage movement.

Coline Jenkins, Stanton's great-great granddaughter, will be among those on hand to dedicate the 26-foot vessel, which will be stationed at the Canal maintenance facility in Albion.

WHO: New York Power Authority President and CEO Gil Quiniones, Canal Corporation Director Brian Stratton, Coline Jenkins, great-great granddaughter of Elizabeth Cady Stanton.

NOTE: In the event of rain, the ceremony will be held in a tent adjacent to the tug.
