Notice to Mariners

Eastern Erie Canal – Herkimer and Oneida Counties

September 9, 2022

Mariners are advised of underwater inspections occurring on the Eastern Erie Canal on the following schedule:

  • Tuesday, September 13th – Crane Creek Spillway, west of Erie Canal Lock E-20 (Whitestown)
  • Wednesday, September 14th – Utica Harbor Lock Lift Gate (Utica)
  • Wednesday, September 14th – Guard Gate 5, just east of Mohawk St. Bridge (E-36) over the Erie Canal (Herkimer)
  • Thursday, September 15th – Sterling Creek Retention Dam, west of Erie Canal Lock E-19 (Schuyler)

The inspection areas will be marked by commercial diver’s flags while divers are in the water. Boaters should reduce speed and proceed at a "No Wake" speed when transiting these areas.
