Harmful algae bloom: Champlain Canal Lock C7 to Lock C8 Fort Edward

Notice to Mariners

August 8, 2019,

Champlain Canal – Fort Edward

Mariners are advised of a harmful algae bloom (HAB) in the Canal between Champlain Canal Lock C-7 and Lock C-8 in Ft. Edward.

Exposure to HABs and toxins can cause symptoms such as diarrhea, nausea or vomiting; skin, eye or throat irritation and allergic reactions or breathing difficulties. People and pets should avoid contact with HABs and should rinse off with clean water if contact occurs. 

No swimming or other water related activities should be attempted in this area of the Canal. Boaters should use gloves when handling lines in the lock chamber. Avoid water contact until further notice.
