Erie Canal – Crescent & Vischer Ferry
November 26, 2018
The Blenheim-Gilboa Project, working with the Canal Corporation, will remove flashboards at Crescent & Vischer Ferry Projects starting Tuesday, December 4, 2018 instead of Tuesday, November 27, 2018 as originally announced in a November 13th Notice to Mariners. The new schedule is as follows:
Sunday, December 2 and Monday, December 3
A gradual 2 to 2.5 foot water drawdown begins at Vischer Ferry as water levels between Mohawk River/Erie Canal Locks E7 & Lock E8 lower. The water drawdown is completed by Tuesday morning. (Elevation 211.0’ BCD*)
Tuesday, December 4
Morning: water levels at Vischer Ferry gradually rise approximately 2 to 2.5 feet to top of flashboards (normal water level during navigation season). (Elevation 213.1’ BCD*)
Morning: A 2-foot drawdown begins at Crescent as water levels between Mohawk River/Erie Canal Locks E6 & E7 lower. Removal at Crescent is completed. (Elevation 183.5’ BCD*)
Afternoon: water levels at Crescent rise approximately 3 inches, to non-navigation season levels. (Elevation 183.8’ BCD*)
Overnight: Another 2 to 2.5 foot drawdown begins at Vischer Ferry as water levels between Mohawk River/Erie Canal Locks E7 & E8 lower a second time. Drawdown completed by Wednesday morning. (Elevation 210.5’ BCD*)
Wednesday, December 5
Morning: With water levels at Vischer Ferry lowered 2 to 2.5 feet, removal of flashboards and fish deterrent systems begins. (Elevation 210.5’ BCD*)
Evening: water levels at Vischer Ferry rise approx. 7 inches. (Elevation 211.1’ BDC*)
Thursday, December 6
Morning: water levels at Vischer Ferry drop approx. 7 inches. (Elevation 210.5’ BCD*)
Removal of flashboards is complete.
Afternoon: water levels at Vischer Ferry rise approx. 3 inches, to non-navigation season levels. (Elevation 210.8’ BCD*)
*BCD refers to Barge Canal Datum
Barring any further complications or inclement weather, the flashboard removal will be completed by Friday, December 1, 2017. Unforeseen precipitation and/or high water conditions may delay this schedule.
