Notice to Mariners

Erie Canal – Fairport-Pittsford

May 30, 2017

 

Mariners are advised of a temporary weekday ban on rafting on the Erie Canal in and between the Villages of Fairport and Pittsford in order to maximize the width of the channel for large commercial cargo shipments.  Rafting is the practice of mooring to a vessel that is moored to a dock or terminal wall.

All mariners in the area need to proceed with extreme caution this week as there are unusually large vessels transiting with less maneuverability than the smaller vessels typically using this navigation pool.
