Notice to Mariners

Eastern Erie Canal – Utica

July 31, 2026

 

Mariners are advised of underwater inspections occurring on the Erie Canal on the following schedule:

  • Monday, August 3rd – Erie Canal Lock E-19 in Frankfort – Lock Chamber and surrounding area.
  • Tuesday, August 4th – Erie Canal Lock E-17 in Little Falls – Lock Chamber and surrounding area.
  • Wednesday, August 5th – Erie Canal Lock E-18 in Jacksonburg – Lock Chamber and surrounding area.
  • Thursday, August 6th – Erie Canal Lock E-19 in Frankfort – Sterling Creek Retention Wall above the lock, and Frankfort Terminal Wall at the Frankfort Harbor marina.
  • Friday, August 7th – Erie Canal Lock E-16 in St, Johnsville – Southeast Approach Wall.

 

The inspection areas will be marked by commercial diver’s flags while divers are in the water. Boaters must come to a full stop, use caution, and proceed at a "No Wake" speed, and under no circumstances exceed 5 mph. Boaters must avoid inspection areas.
