Notice to Mariners

Champlain Canal – Whitehall Comstock and Plattsburg

July 9, 2026

 

Mariners are advised of underwater inspections occurring on the Champlain Canal on the following schedule:

  • Monday, July 13th – Whitehall Terminal, south of Champlain Canal Lock C-12 in Whitehall.
  • Tuesday, July 14th – Champlain Canal Lock C-11 in Comstock – Lock Chamber and surrounding area.
  • Wednesday, July 15th – Champlain Canal Lock C-12 in Whitehall – Lock Chamber and surrounding area.
  • Thursday, July 16th – Plattsburg Terminal (Wilcox Dock) and Champlain Canal Lock C-12 in Whitehall – Taintor Gate and Sluice Gate.

 

The inspection areas will be marked by commercial diver’s flags while divers are in the water. Boaters must come to a full stop, use caution, and proceed at a "No Wake" speed, and under no circumstances exceed 5 mph. Boaters must avoid inspection areas.
