Underwater Inspections: Champlain Canal
Notice to Mariners
Champlain Canal – Fort Miller Fort Edward and Smith’s Basin
June 5, 2026
Mariners are advised of underwater inspections occurring on the Champlain on the following schedule:
- Monday, June 8th – Champlain Canal Lock C-9 in Smith’s Basin – Siphon Spillway, southeast of the lock.
- Monday, June 8th – Champlain Canal Crocker Reef Guard Gate – Guard Gate and Bypass Structure, about two miles north of Champlain Canal Lock C-6 in Fort Miller.
- Tuesday, June 9th – Champlain Canal Lock C-8 in Fort Edward – Southeast Approach Wall and Southwest Approach Wall
- Wednesday, June 10th – Champlain Lock C-8 in Fort Edward – Lock chamber and surrounding area.
- Thursday, June 11th – Champlain Canal Lock C-9 in Smith’s Basin – Lock chamber and surrounding area.
- Friday, June 12th – East Creek Spillway approximately ½ mile north of Champlain Canal Lock C-9 in Smith’s Basin
The inspection areas will be marked by commercial diver’s flags while divers are in the water. Boaters must come to a full stop, use caution, and proceed at a "No Wake" speed, and under no circumstances exceed 5 mph. Boaters must avoid inspection areas.
