Notice to Mariners

Cayuga-Seneca and Western Erie Canals

May 29, 2026

 

Mariners are advised of underwater inspections occurring on the Cayuga-Seneca and Erie Canals on the following schedule:

 

  • Monday, June 1st – Cayuga-Seneca Canal Lock CS-4 in Waterloo – Guard Gate
  • Tuesday, June 2nd – Cayuga-Seneca Canal Lock CS-4 in Waterloo – Taintor Gate and Retention Dam, north of the lock
  • Wednesday, June 3rd – Erie Canal Lock E-28B in Newark - Northwest Approach Wall
  • Thursday, June 4th – Cayuga-Seneca Canal Lock CS-1 in Cayuga - Northeast Approach Wall
  • Friday, June 5th – Cayuga-Seneca Canal Lock CS-2 in Seneca Falls – Southeast Approach Wall

 

The inspection areas will be marked by commercial diver’s flags while divers are in the water. Boaters must come to a full stop, use caution, and proceed at a "No Wake" speed, and under no circumstances exceed 5 mph.
