Notice to Mariners

Eastern Erie Canal – Scotia and Vischer Ferry

October 10, 2025

 

Mariners are advised of underwater inspections occurring on the Eastern Erie Canal on the following schedule:

  • Monday, October 13th – Lock E-8 in Scotia, moveable dam.
  • Tuesday, October 14th – Lock E-8 in Scotia, lock chamber and surrounding area.
  • Wednesday, October 15th – Lock E-8 in Scotia, southeast approach wall extension.
  • Thursday, October 16th - Lock E-7 in Vischer Ferry, lock chamber and surrounding area.
  • Friday, October 17th – Lock E-7 in Vischer Ferry, northeast approach wall.

The inspection areas will be marked by a dive boat and commercial diver’s flags while divers are in the water. Boaters must come to a full stop, use caution, and proceed at a "No Wake" speed, and under no circumstances exceed 5 mph.
