Notice to Mariners

 Erie and Champlain Canals

July 11, 2025

 

Mariners are advised that bridge inspections will be occurring on the Erie and Champlain Canals on the following schedule:

  • Monday, July 14th – Route 146, Rexford Bridge (E-8) over Erie Canal in Niskayuna.
  • Tuesday, July 15th and Wednesday, July 16th – Route 4 Bridge (C-2) over the Champlain Canal in Waterford.
  • Thursday, July 17th and Friday, July 18th – Route 87 Bridge (E-7) over the Erie Canal in Colonie.

 

These bridges will be inspected using an Under Bridge Inspection Unit which will be deployed from the deck of the bridge. Channel width may be reduced, and slight delays may occur due to a skiff moving below the bridge.

Mariners should reduce speed, stop all forward motion, sound horns, and proceed at a "No Wake" speed and under no circumstances shall any vessel exceed 5mph.
