Opening Update: Oswego Canal Lock O-1 to Lock O-8

June 13, 2025

The New York State Canal Corporation today announced the following update:

The Oswego Canal, Oswego Canal Lock O-1 in Phoenix to Lock O-8 in Oswego will open for navigation on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 8:00 a.m.

Additional Information for Mariners

Boaters transiting between Lock E-8 in Rotterdam and Lock E-16 in St. Johnsville may experience low water as the Canal Corporation removes debris from the movable dams and resets water control structures after the recent high flow event.

Erie Canal Lock E-24 in Baldwinsville, Erie Canal Lock E-25 in Mays Point, Cayuga – Seneca Canal Lock CS-1 in Cayuga, remain closed to navigation due to high water and unsafe conditions. An announcement regarding the reopening of these areas of the Canal system will be made in a subsequent Notice to Mariners.

Boaters who are navigating the open sections of the Canal system should be aware of floating debris generated by recent heavy rainfall and proceed with caution, at a "No Wake" speed as some debris may be hard to see.
