 Notice to Mariners

 Erie Canal – Rochester

October 9, 2026

 

Mariners are advised that Genesee Rowing Club will hold a regatta on Saturday, October 10, and Sunday, October 11, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The event will start at the New Jefferson Bridge, on the Genesee River and will proceed north across the Erie Canal to the Elmwood Bridge (E-156). Approximately 200 rowing boats will participate. Law enforcement and safety boats will be present to monitor the event.

 

Boaters must reduce speed, stop all forward motion, and proceed at a "No Wake" speed when approaching the event participants crossing the navigation channel and under no circumstances shall any vessel exceed 5 MPH.

The Canal system is scheduled to close to navigation at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 14, 2026. All commercial and recreational vessel operators must plan their trips accordingly to ensure they exit the system by that time.
