 Notice to Mariners

Eastern Erie Canal – Rome

September 18, 2026

 

Mariners are advised that a paddling event will occur on Saturday, September 19th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The event will start at Bellamy Harbor Park in Rome and exit the navigation channel just west of the Oriskany Rd. Bridge (E-49) and west of Erie Canal Lock E-20 in Whitesboro. Approximately 40 paddle craft will participate and be accompanied by law enforcement escort boats, while in the navigation channel. Paddlers will continue to the east on the Mohawk River, completing the event at the Utica Canal Terminal.

Boaters should reduce speed, stop all forward motion and proceed at a "No Wake" speed when approaching event participants and under no circumstances shall any vessel exceed 5 mph.
