Notice to Mariners

 Erie Canal – Tonawanda and Brewerton

September 4, 2026

 

Mariners are advised of intermittent delays due to closures at locks during underwater inspections occurring on the Erie Canal on the following schedule:

Wednesday, September 9 – Webster Street Bridge (E-248) over the Erie Canal in Tonawanda – Pile Clusters and Fenders.

Thursday, September 10 – Erie Canal Lock E-23 in Brewerton – Southwest Approach Wall.

 

The inspection areas will be marked by commercial diver’s flags while divers are in the water. Boaters must come to a full stop, use caution, and proceed at a "No Wake" speed, and under no circumstances exceed 5 mph. Boaters must avoid inspection areas. Boaters should contact the lock operator to schedule times to pass through the lock.
