Notice to Mariners

Eastern Erie Canal – Utica

August 28, 2026

 

Mariners are advised of delays due to underwater inspections in the proximity of locks on the Erie Canal on the following schedule:

• Monday, August 31^st – South Stone Retaining Wall above Guard Gate #4 and Guard Gate #4 west of Erie Canal Lock E-17 in Little Falls.
• Tuesday, September 1^st – Herkimer Spillway north of Guard Gate #5 and Herkimer Terminal Wall at Gems Along the Mohawk. Upper and Lower Guide Walls at Erie Canal Lock E-18 in Jacksonburg.
• Wednesday, September 2^nd – Guard Gate #3 in Indian Castle and Concrete Piers.
• Thursday, September 3^rd  –  North and South Retaining Walls at Benton’s Landing west of Erie Canal Lock E-17 in Little Falls.

The inspection areas will be marked by a dive boat and commercial diver’s flags while divers are in the water. Boaters must come to a full stop, use caution, and proceed at a "No Wake" speed, and under no circumstances exceed 5 mph. Boaters must avoid inspection areas.
