Notice to Mariners

Eastern Erie and Champlain Canals

August 21, 2026

 

Mariners are advised of intermittent delays due to closures at locks during underwater inspections occurring on the Erie and Champlain Canals on the following schedule:

• Monday, August 24^th – Erie Canal Lock E-15 in Fort Plain – Lock Chamber and surrounding area.
• Tuesday, August 25^th – Erie Canal Lock E-10 in Cranesville – Lock Chamber and surrounding area.
• Wednesday, August 26^th – Erie Canal Lock E-9 in Rotterdam – Lock Chamber and surrounding area.
• Thursday, August 27^th – Champlain Canal Lock C-11 in Comstock and Lock C-12 in Whitehall - Lock Chamber and surrounding area.
• Friday, August 28^th – Champlain Canal Lock C-6 in Fort Miller – Lock Chamber and surrounding area.

The inspection areas will be marked by commercial diver’s flags while divers are in the water. Boaters must come to a full stop, use caution, and proceed at a "No Wake" speed, and under no circumstances exceed 5 mph. Boaters must avoid inspection areas and contact lock operators during closures to schedule passage times.
