Notice to Mariners

Champlain Canal, Eastern Erie Canal, Oswego Canal

July 3, 2017

 

Mariners are advised of the following tentative reopening schedule for canal sections recently closed due to excessive rainfall, runoff, swift currents, and high water levels:

  • Champlain Canal: Tuesday, July 4th 7:00 AM

  • Erie Canal Locks E2-E12: Tuesday, July 4th 7:00 AM.

  • Erie Canal Locks E13-E18: earliest - later this week.

  • Erie Canal Locks E19-E22: Tuesday, July 4th 7:00 AM

  • Oswego Canal Locks O1-O7: earliest - midweek (this week)

  • Oswego Canal Lock O-8: open now (with later holiday hours as per http://www.canals.ny.gov/wwwapps/tas/notices/ntm.aspx?id=890).

Note: Locks E-23 & E-24 were not closed and will still operate special extended hours on July 4th as per http://www.canals.ny.gov/wwwapps/tas/notices/ntm.aspx?id=891.

Mariners are reminded that they may encounter debris, high water, high current, and buoys off station in any sections recently reopened after a high-water event.

Additionally, the 48 hour per month limit on mooring at terminal walls is suspended for transient vessels delayed by the recent closures.
