The GlassBarge brings the excitement of live glassmaking from The Corning Museum of Glass to waterfront communities along historic waterways of New York State. The Museum has taken mobile hot shops across the globe. This all-new, world-class performance venue brings floating Hot Glass Demos to the Museum’s New York State neighbors along the Erie Canal and its connected waterways.

Journey Along the Erie Canal is a 12 day bike ride along the beautiful Erie Canalway trail to raise awareness for the benefit of employment for all New Yorkers and to raise funds toward building employment opportunities and empowering people with disabilities.

During the spring, summer and fall of 2017, Lake Champlain Maritime Museum’s Sailing Canal Boat Lois McClure will visit ports along the Champlain and Erie Canals. The schooner Lois McClure’s 2017 voyage celebrates the huge undertaking that began on July 4, 1817 when ground was broken for the construction of the Erie Canal.

In honor of the Bicentennial of the beginning of construction of the Erie Canal, New York State’s Office of Cultural Education will present this rich story in a 7,000 square foot exhibition at the New York State Muse-um. In collaboration with organizations on the canal corridor and across the state, the State Museum will tell the Erie Canal’s story with unique objects, documents, and images.

Celebrate the history, culture, recreational appeal, and beauty of the New York State Canal System and Erie Canalway Trail during the 10 days of Canal Splash!

Friday, August 11 - Sunday, August 20, 2017

Canal Splash! is a coordinated series of locally organized events and activities, that take place along the Canal System and Canalway Trail, including nature and history walks, museum and gallery exhibits, rowing regattas, kayak and canoe outings, musical performances, boat tours and more.

Canal Corridor communities, businesses, clubs, individuals, and non-profit organizations are invited to list events by July 20, 2016. The events must take place during the weekend of August 11 - August 20, 2017 in order to be accepted. The New York State Canal Corporation and its partners will market your event or activity throughout the state for free.

Be part of the statewide festivities! The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
