NOTICE TO MARINERS

Erie Canal – Scotia to Saint Johnsville

October 19, 2023

 

The New York State Canal Corporation today announced that the annual lowering of water levels within the Erie Canal and Mohawk River between Erie Canal Lock E-8 in Scotia and Lock E-16 in St. Johnsville is scheduled to begin on Monday, October 23, 2023. To accomplish this, Canal Corporation crews will be lifting the movable dams out of the water over a period of several days.  

Residents are encouraged to take appropriate actions regarding any vessels, docks, or other seasonal structures in these areas which may be impacted or damaged by the lowering of the canal and river to winter water levels.

The Canal system closed to navigation at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, October 11, 2023.
