 Notice to Mariners

Erie Canal – Scotia

October 6, 2023

Mariners are advised that a marathon row will be occurring on Saturday, October 7th. The event will start at in Alplaus near the Mohawk Valley Marina, pass through Erie Canal Lock E-8 in Scotia, continue to Lock E-9 in Rotterdam and return through the locks to the Mohawk Valley Marina. Approximately 8 rowing shells will participate and be accompanied by five outboard escort boats.

Mariners should reduce speed, stop all forward motion and proceed at a "No Wake" speed when approaching event participants and under no circumstances shall any vessel exceed 5 MPH.

The Canal system is scheduled to close to navigation at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 11, 2023. All vessel operators should plan their trips to ensure they exit the system by that time.
