Notice to Mariners
Western Erie Canal – Rochester
October 6, 2023
Mariners are advised that Genesee Rowing Club will hold a regatta on Saturday, October 7th, and Sunday October 8th, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The event will start at the New Jefferson Bridge, on the Genesee River and will proceed north across the Erie Canal to the Elmwood Bridge. Approximately 250 rowing boats will participate. Law enforcement and safety boats will be present to monitor the event.
Boaters should reduce speed, stop all forward motion, and proceed at a "No Wake" speed when approaching the event participants and under no circumstances shall any vessel exceed 5 MPH.

The Canal system is scheduled to close to navigation at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, October 11, 2023. All vessel operators should plan their trips to ensure they exit the system by that time.
