 Notice to Mariners

Champlain Canal – Waterford to Fort Edward

July 14, 2023

Mariners are advised that Champlain Canal Locks C-1 in Waterford to Lock C-7 in Fort Edward that were announced as closed in a previous Notice to Mariners will reopen to navigation on Saturday, July 15th, at 8:00 a.m.

Boaters should be aware of excessive floating debris and strong currents due to recent heavy rainfall in the Upper Hudson River, particularly at the downstream approaches to locks. Aids to navigation may also be off station.

Boaters should use caution and check with lock operators to verify overhead clearances before transiting and plan itineraries accordingly.

Based on current weather forecasts, this portion of the Canal System is subject to additional severe weather and rainfall this weekend and may be closed again with little advance notice.
