Notice to Mariners

Erie Canal – Lock E-23 to Lock E-24
Oswego Canal
June 13, 2015

Mariners are advised that heavy rainfall has lead to rising water in many sections of the Canal System which remain open, particularly on the Erie Canal and Oswego Canal in Central New York.

Bridge heights may be reduced and some buoys may be off station.  Mariners should proceed with caution, verify vertical clearances under bridges and other overhead structures, and be on the lookout for debris.  Strong currents will prevail in these areas, and under-powered vessels should not attempt to transit until high water levels recede.

Additionally, all vessels must transit at a No Wake speed between Lock E-23 and Lock E-24 on the Erie Canal, and the Oswego Canal, until further notice.  Vessel wakes can lead to residential property damage during high water level conditions.
