Erie Canal – Reopening Update

June 22, 2019

Mariners are advised that the Erie Canal from to Lock E-2 Waterford to Lock E-22 New London has reopened to navigation. At this point the entire eastern Erie Canal is open to navigation.

Mariners are also advised that Erie Canal Lock E-23 Brewerton to Lock E-28A Lyons and to Lock C/S-1 Cayuga and the entire Oswego Canal from Lock O-1 Phoenix to Lock O-8 Oswego remain closed due to high water levels and heavy flows from recent heavy rainfall, until further notice.

Boaters may still use Lock E-23 Brewerton to access Oneida Lake.

Mariners are reminded that they may encounter debris, high water, high current, and buoys off station in any sections recently reopened after a high-water event.

Updates will follow.

Features along the eastern portion of the Erie Canal are listed by mileage at http://www.canals.ny.gov/wwwapps/navinfo/navinfo.aspx?waterway=erieeastern
