Notice to Mariners

Western Erie Canal

August 20, 2018

 

Mariners are reminded that the Welland Canal is closed on Tuesday August 28th from 6am until midnight for maintenance as per The Great Lakes – St. Lawrence Seaway System Notice to Shipping #8.  The alternative, using the western Erie Canal (Locks 24-35), has the dimensional constraints of:

  • 300’ length

  • 43.5’ beam

  • 10’ draft

  • 15.6’ air draft

 

Vessels not fitting within these dimensions must wait for the Welland Canal to reopen.  Governing bridge clearances on the Oswego-Waterford Route (Oswego Canal & eastern Erie Canal) remain 21’.
