Notice to Mariners
Erie Canal – Lock E-6 and Lock E-7
Lowered Water Levels
June 21, 2013
Mariners are advised that the New York Power Authority (NYPA) will be lowering the water level approximately 3 feet below typical summer navigation levels upstream of Lock E-7 in Vischer Ferry on the Erie Canal on Monday, June 24th. This will be done in order to facilitate reinstallation of flashboards on the dam at Lock E-7. The water level will begin to be lowered on Monday afternoon/evening and continue throughout the night. The flashboards will be reinstalled and water levels will rise the day on Friday, June 28th.
Mariners are also advised that navigation levels above Lock E-6 in Crescent will be lowered approximately 1.5 feet on the morning of Friday, June 28th. The level will return to normal by the end of the day.
The NYPA anticipates that the water level will be returned to normal by the end of the day on Friday, depending on river flows. Depending on weather and/or flow conditions in the river the work may be cancelled and rescheduled by NYPA. For more information, please call David Weiman of the NYPA at (518) 287-6340.
These temporary low water levels may affect some vessels docked at marinas or private docks/slips, in shallower near shore areas.
