Notice to Mariners

Erie, Oswego, & Cayuga-Seneca Canals
July 4, 2015

Mariners are advised that the Erie Canal from the upper side of Lock E-25 (Mays Point) to and including Lock E-27 (Lyons) has reopened to all vessel traffic, effective immediately.

The Oswego Canal, and the Erie Canal from Lock E-23 to the Oswego Canal junction at Three Rivers, is tentatively scheduled to reopen to navigation at 8 am on Tuesday, July 7th.  This schedule is dependent on successful replacement of navigational aids on Monday, and a subsequent notice to mariners on Monday, July 6th will confirm this schedule.

The Erie Canal from the Oswego Canal junction at Three Rivers to and including Lock E-25 (Mays Point), and the Cayuga-Seneca Canal from Lock CS-1 to the junction of the Erie Canal, are projected to remain closed for another 7-10 days, barring additional rainfall, which could extend the closure of this section of the Canal System even further.

However, the Canal Corporation intends to escort transient vessels through this closed area next week, no earlier than Wednesday, July 8th.  The Canal Corporation will evaluate conditions and flow and river stage projections on Monday, July 6th and publish a schedule for these escorts at that time.
