Notice to Mariners

Champlain Canal – Fort Edward to Smith’s Basin

October 7, 2022

Mariners are advised that water levels in the Canal from Champlain Canal Lock C-7 in Fort Edward to Lock C-9 in Smith’s Basin are approximately 2.5 feet lower than normal due to low water supply from the Glens Falls Feeder Canal. This lower water level may affect boats and docks on this area of the Champlain Canal. Any vessels with greater than 7 feet of draft transiting this area of the Champlain Canal should contact the Canal Corporation at 518 461-0942.

The Canal system is scheduled to close to navigation at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, October 12, 2022. All vessel operators should plan their trips to ensure they exit the system by that time. For more information, please click here.
