Notice to Mariners

Eastern Erie and Champlain Canals

October 7, 2022

Mariners are advised that bridge inspections will be occurring on the Eastern Erie and Champlain Canals on the following schedule:

  • Tuesday, October 11th – Freemans Bridge (E-11) over the Erie Canal in Glenville, Schenectady County.
  • Wednesday, October 12th – 126th St., Rt. 4 Bridge (C-2) over the Champlain Canal in Waterford, Saratoga County.

These bridges will be inspected using an Under Bridge Inspection Unit, which will be deployed from the deck of the bridges. Channel width may be reduced, and slight delays may occur due to a skiff moving below the bridges.

Mariners should reduce speed, stop all forward motion, sound horns, and proceed at a "No Wake" speed when transiting these areas.
