Notice to Mariners

Erie and Oswego Canals

September 30, 2022

Mariners are advised of underwater inspections occurring on the Erie and Oswego Canals on the following schedule:

  • Monday, October 3rd – Oswego Canal Lock O-8 – (Oswego) Lock and Gate Areas.
  • Tuesday, October 4th – Erie Canal Lock E-23 (Brewerton) – Guard Gate above Lock E-23 and Southwest Approach Wall below Lock E-23.   

The inspection areas will be marked by commercial diver’s flags while divers are in the water. Boaters should reduce speed and proceed at a "No Wake" speed when transiting these areas.

The Canal system is scheduled to close to navigation at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, October 12, 2022. All vessel operators should plan their trips to ensure they exit the system by that time. For more information, please click here.
