 Notice to Mariners

Eastern Erie and Champlain Canals

September 9, 2022

Mariners are advised of bridge inspections on structures occurring on the Eastern Erie and Champlain Canals, on the following schedule:

  • Monday, September 12th – Freemans Bridge (E-11) over Erie Canal in Glenville, Schenectady County.
  • Wednesday, September 14th– Route 4 Bridge (C-29) over the Champlain Canal in Whitehall, Washington County.

These bridges, we will be inspected using an Under Bridge Inspection Unit, which will be deployed from the deck of the bridge. Channel width may be reduced, and slight delays may occur due to a skiff moving below bridges being inspected.

Mariners should reduce speed, stop all forward motion, sound horns, and proceed at a "No Wake" speed when transiting these areas.
