Notice to Mariners
Erie Canal – Waterford

Mariners are advised that clearance under Bridge E-2 (4th Street) over the Erie Canal in Waterford has been temporarily reduced due to bridge maintenance activities. The posted clearance for this bridge is 25.37’ at normal pool. Suspended scaffolding under this bridge has reduced the available clearance to 23.37’ at a normal pool elevation of 16.63’ and 18.00’ at a maximum pool elevation of 22.00’. Conditions of the work permit provide for removal of sections of scaffolding with sufficient advanced notice. Vessels requiring vertical clearance greater than 18.00’ are encouraged to verify pool levels by calling NYSCC at (518) 471-0514 at least 72 hours prior to transiting this portion of the canal.
