Notice to Mariners

Erie Canal – Lyons

July 8, 2022

Mariners are advised that bridge deck replacement and rehabilitation activities will begin on Monday, July 11, 2022, on the NY Route 31 Bridge E-99A over the Erie Canal in the village of Lyons and will continue through the end of the navigation season. The bridge is located east of Erie Canal Lock E-27 in Lyons. The normal navigation channel width clearance will be reduced by one half the normal width, with scaffolding beneath the bridge on the closed half of the navigation channel. The open navigation channel will be outlined by red and green buoys and will intermittently change from the north side to the south side of the channel, as necessary. Construction signs are posted on both sides of the bridge. Normal overhead clearance will not be affected on the open half of the navigation channel, beneath the bridge. Spotters will alert workers of approaching vessels who will suspend work to allow vessels to pass under the bridge.

Boaters should reduce speed, stop all forward motion, blow horns, and proceed at a "No-Wake" speed when traversing this area.
