Notice to Mariners

Champlain Canal – Fort Edward to Smiths Basin

August 26, 2021

Mariners are advised that due to an ongoing construction project in the Glens Falls Feeder, the summit water elevation between Champlain Canal Lock C-8 (Fort Edward) and Lock C-9 (Smiths Basin) is currently 6-8” lower than normal.

Water levels may continue to drop in the Lock C-8 to Lock C-9 pool and Lock C-7 to Lock C-8 pool to 12-18” lower than normal over the weekend.

Additionally, to lessen the impact to navigation, the schedule of lockings at Lock C-7, Lock C-8, and Lock C-9 will be as follows:

--Northbound Lockings on the Even Hours

--Southbound Lockings on the Odd Hours

It is anticipated that this Notice to Mariners will be lifted in first half of next week.
