Notice to Mariners

Champlain Canal – Smith’s Basin

August 24, 2021

Mariners are advised that Champlain Canal Lock C-9 (Smith’s Basin) will reopen to navigation tomorrow Wednesday, August 25th at 7:00 am. The lock will only be passing vessels with a maximum beam of 21 feet due to inoperable lock gates and will require all southbound boaters to tie to the west (starboard) side of the lock chamber when passing through the lock, due to a non-operating fill valve until further notice.

A chart showing the affected area can be found at https://www.canals.ny.gov/navinfo/charts/14786c07r.png

Features on the Champlain Canal are listed by mileage at http://www.canals.ny.gov/wwwapps/navinfo/navinfo.aspx?waterway=champlain
