NOTICE TO MARINERS

ERIE CANAL – LOCK E-7 / VISCHER FERRY DAM

JUNE 23, 2021

The New York State Canal Corporation today announced the temporary lowering of the Vischer Ferry Pond upstream of Lock E-7 for debris removal work on Thursday, June 24, 2021. These activities will cause fluctuations in water levels which may affect marinas, boats, and docks.

The schedule is as follows:

Morning: A gradual drawdown begins at Vischer Ferry as water levels between Mohawk River / Erie Canal Lock E-7 and E-8 are lowered. Water levels will drop approximately one foot, depending on river flows at the time. (Elevation 212.2’ Barge Canal Datum)

Debris is removed from the Adult fish passage on Dam F. Debris is removed from the Debris / Ice Boom at the powerhouse forebay.

Afternoon / Evening: Water levels at Vischer Ferry return to top of flashboards, navigation season levels, as river flow permits. (Elevation 213.1’ BCD)

Barring any complications or inclement weather, debris removal work will be completed on Thursday, June 24, 2021. Unforeseen precipitation and/or high-water conditions may delay this schedule.

The Canal Corporation urges all users to register to receive updates through the “Notice to Mariners” notification program at www.canals.ny.gov
