Notice to Mariners

Erie & Champlain Canals – Towns of Waterford & Halfmoon

August 30, 2019

Mariners are advised of a large group paddling event occurring from Alcathy’s boat launch above Erie Canal Lock E-6, downstream through the Waterford Flight and then upstream on the Champlain Canal though Lock C-1 on Saturday September 7th from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.  This event will be passing through the Tugboat Roundup (announced in an August 29th Notice to Mariners). The concurrence of both events at Waterford Harbor is likely to cause delays.

Captains of transiting motor vessels who can adjust their itineraries to avoid the Erie Canal-Champlain Canal Junction on the morning of Saturday, September 7th are encouraged to do so, and those who are unable are to, proceed at a no wake, near idle, bare steerageway speed when in sight of event participants, and are to stay clear of and give way to these paddlers at all times.
