Notice to Mariners
Champlain Canal – Ft. Edward
August 16, 2019
Mariners are advised that the navigation pool from Champlain Canal Lock C-8 in Ft. Edward to Lock C-9 in Smith’s Basin is scheduled to be drawn down by approximately 2 feet starting today in support of a Canal construction project. This construction work is located on the western bank of the Canal near the New Swamp Rd. Bridge (C-19) and proceeds north toward Lock C-9. Reduced water levels may continue intermittently for the next several weeks in support of the construction project.
Vessel draft in this section of the Canal will temporarily be limited to approximately 7 feet. Plan itineraries accordingly.
Vessels with a draft deeper than 7 feet should contact Ted Westerling at (518) 461-0942 for additional information and to schedule a passage through this area.
