Notice to Mariners
Erie Canal – Rome
July 31, 2019
Mariners are advised of a restricted speed zone at Bellamy Harbor Park between Mill Street Bridge E-51 and Guard Gate 7 on the Erie Canal due to activities on the water associated with Rome Canalfest. These events will be held from Friday, August 2nd at 12:00 pm through Sunday, August 4th at 10:00 pm. Activities will encroach the navigation channel that will delay traffic. There will be breaks in which traffic may pass as directed by navigational inspectors. Mariners should reduce speed, stop all forward motion, and proceed at a "No Wake" speed when traversing this area. Law enforcement boats will be positioned to monitor boat traffic. Plan itineraries accordingly.
Mariners are also advised of fireworks displays just east of the Mill St. Bridge E-51 over the Erie Canal on Friday, August 2nd and Saturday, August 3rd at dusk. Boaters in the area are to remain 75 yards from the fireworks source, outside of the fallout zone. Boaters must travel at a "No Wake" speed of not more than 5 mph and be aware of denser than usual traffic and anchored spectator boats in the area. Law enforcement boats will be present.
