Notice to Mariners

Erie Canal – Cities of Tonawanda & North Tonawanda

Canal Fest

July 18, 2019

 

Mariners are advised of the following navigation restrictions on the Erie Canal between the CSX Railroad Bridge (E-246) and Webster Street (E-248) this coming weekend related to Canal Fest of the Tonawandas:

Saturday, July 20th        

  • 3:00 PM - Rubber Duck Race (45 minutes). Boaters will experience a delay for a short period of time, during the race.

  • 6:00 PM - Sika Cup Challenge Race (1.5 hours). Boaters will experience a delay for a short period of time, during the race.

  • Dusk - Boat Parade (45 minutes). A 50-yard security zone around participating vessels will be in effect during the near the flotilla.

Sunday, July 21th

  • Dusk - Fireworks (1 hour, 15 minutes). This area of the Canal will be closed to vessel traffic. Mariners in the area are to maintain a distance 75 yards from the fireworks source, outside of the fallout zone. Boaters must travel at a "No Wake" speed of not more than 5 mph and be aware of denser than usual traffic and anchored spectator boats in the area. Law enforcement boats will be present.
