Notice to Mariners

Champlain Canal – Whitehall

June 11, 2012

 

Mariners are advised that clearance under Bridge C-29 on the Champlain Canal has been temporarily reduced due to bridge construction activities.  The posted clearance for this bridge is 18.65’ at normal pool.  Suspended scaffolding under this bridge has reduced the available clearance to 16.53’ (east), 18.12’ (center) and 19.53’ (west) at normal pool elevation of 112.00’.  Clearance is reduced to 15.33’ (east), 16.92’ (center) and 18.33’ (west) at maximum pool elevation of 113.20’.  Vessels transiting the Champlain Canal which require maximum available vertical clearance should transit this area with caution, and stay to the west side of the channel when passing under this bridge.  Mariners should verify pool level with the Lock C-12 operator at (518) 449-1700 to ensure safe passage.
