Notice to Mariners
Erie Canal – Herkimer
July 20, 2020
Mariners are advised of bridge painting activities that will begin Tuesday, July 21st on the Washington Street Bridge E-34A over the Erie Canal in the town of Herkimer. Normal overhead clearance will be reduced by one foot on the south half of the navigation channel due to lighted scaffolding beneath the bridge. Boaters should use the north side of the channel when passing under the bridge. Construction signs are posted on both sides of the bridge.
Mariners should reduce speed, stop all forward motion, blow horns, and proceed at a "No-Wake" speed when traversing this area.
