Notice to Mariners

Erie Canal – Mohawk River

October 26, 2017

The New York State Canal Corporation is announcing water levels on the Mohawk River portion of the Erie Canal between Locks E-8 near Scotia and E-19 near Frankfort will be lowered several feet, starting at noon on Friday, October 27th, as preemptive measures are implemented in advance of flooding forecast for the area.

If necessary, water levels may be reduced further to natural “run of river” conditions if forecasts continue to worsen this weekend. Additional updates will follow if needed.

Residents are encouraged to take any appropriate actions regarding any vessels, docks, or other seasonal structures in these areas which may be impacted or damaged by significantly reduced, or fluctuating, water levels.

Features along the eastern portion of the Erie canal are listed by mileage at http://www.canals.ny.gov/wwwapps/navinfo/navinfo.aspx?waterway=erieeastern
