CANAL CORPORATION BEGINS FORESTPORT FEEDER CANAL REPAIRS IN ONEIDA COUNTY

BOONVILLE—The New York State Canal Corporation today announced that repairs have begun on the Forestport Feeder Canal in Oneida County.

The 10-mile-long feeder canal sits just outside the Adirondack Park and is popular with canoeists and kayakers. The feeder canal diverts water from the Black River at Forestport to the upper Mohawk River Basin and Delta Reservoir, an important water source for the eastern Erie Canal. The Canal Corporation dewatered the canal to make repairs on a section of the feeder canal’s embankment near Moose River Road.

Crews are working on Moose River Road in Boonville fixing the slope along the feeder canal. While repairs are ongoing, the regular flow of water is expected to resume by June 29. It is anticipated it will take 1-2 days to completely refill the waterway, which also supplies water for the Village of Boonville’s swimming pond at Erwin Park, allowing the pond to be open by June 30.

Repairs are expected to be fully completed by mid-to-late July. While repair work continues, interruptions in access for trail users between Moose River Road and Sergeant Road may be necessary.
