NYS Canal Corporation, Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor, and Parks and Trails New York to Kick Off Upcoming Canal Splash! Weekend

The New York State Canal Corporation, together with the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor and Parks and Trails New York, will hold a press conference on Thursday, August 6, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at Dutchman’s Landing in the Town of Lysander, Onondaga County (directions below), to kick off the fourth annual Canal Splash! weekend.

The three-day celebration takes place August 7-9 and will highlight the history, culture, recreational appeal and beauty of the New York State Canal System and the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor.  This year’s Canal Splash! features nearly 100 events and activities including nature walks, educational exhibits, boating events and races, musical performances and tours.

Immediately following the press conference, there will be a short boat ride aboard the Emita II.  Members of the media, including photographers, are invited to attend.

Directions to Dutchman’s Landing:

Take the NYS Thruway to Interchange 38 and turn left on Route 57.  Turn left onto John Glenn Boulevard to Route 370.  Turn right onto Route 370, cross the Erie Canal and turn right onto River Road.  After 1/10 mile, turn right on Hillside Road.  Mid-Lakes Navigation’s dock and parking is at the end of Hillside Road.
