The City of Ithaca has informed the Canal Corporation that the Tompkins County Sheriff will close the Cayuga Inlet from its inlet from Cayuga Lake at the light house and break water, south to the State Street Bridge (NYS Route 79) across the Inlet on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 due to a Hydrilla infestation causing an environmental emergency in the Inlet. The period of closure is indeterminate at this time, but is believed to be approximately two weeks in length.
