Notice to Mariners

Upper Hudson River Dredging Project
Champlain Canal
September 5, 2011
All mariners are advised that the upper Hudson River dredging project, administered by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and General Electric (GE), will be in progress during the 2011 Navigation Season between Lock C-6 and Lock C-8, proximate to Lock C-7 in the Town of Fort Edward. The dredging operations are lighted, have day shapes and arrow boards displayed.
Mariners are reminded that buoy R220 in Fort Edward has been relocated 1,000 feet southwest of the position indicated on NOAA charts and buoy G219 in Fort Edward has been temporarily removed due to the GE dredging project until further notice.
All boaters must contact the Vessel Traffic Center on VHF Channel 18A for transit information through the project area.
Activities Planned for the Week of September 5, 2011:
- Barge unloading operation immediately south of Lock C-8.
- Backfill operations between Lock 7 and approximately 1200 feet south of buoy Red 222.
- Dredging between approximately 1200 feet south of buoy Red 222 and approximately 700 feet south of buoy Red 218.
PASS WITH CAUTION - NO WAKE ZONE
Speed limits between Lock C-6 and Lock C-8 will be 5 mph in all work zones. In addition, please be mindful of your wakes and when approaching work platforms, stop all forward motion and proceed at a “No-Wake” speed. Local and state marine patrols will enforce posted speed limits.
