Notice to Mariners
Canal System Update

Mariners are advised, the Champlain Canal from Lock C-1 (Waterford) to Lock C-7 (Fort Edward) will open for navigation at 7:00 am on Saturday, May 21, 2011. Additionally, the Champlain Canal from Lock C-7 (Fort Edward) to C-12 (Whitehall) will open for navigation at 7:00 am on Sunday, May 22, 2011.
Due to continued high water and excessive flows caused by recent weather events, the Oswego Canal, Cayuga-Seneca Canal, Genesee River and the Erie Canal from Lock E-23 (Brewerton) to Lock E-26 (Clyde) will remain closed for the foreseeable future. An estimated opening schedule in these areas will be determined early next week, based on the results of the weather events occurring through the end of this week. Further notices will be issued as this schedule is developed.
Additionally, Lock E-2 (Waterford) to Lock E-15 (Fort Plain) is closed due to high water levels from heavy rainfall, until further notice.
